Tesmec Rail has successfully completed all tests involving its vehicles operating in convoy configuration for the automated catenary maintenance working method. This achievement is made possible by the advanced onboard technological safety system based on remote multiple command.
The system enables remote management of traction, braking systems, and alarms for multiple vehicles connected in a convoy. The control architecture has been specifically designed to ensure fully synchronized traction across all vehicles through the TCN remote-control node.
Thanks to the integration of the TCN gateway and the translator module, the system guarantees convoy safety while allowing full command and real-time monitoring of all self-propelled vehicles directly from the “Master” cabin.

Plasser AHM 800 R
The Plasser AHM 800 R is an advanced ballast rehabilitation machine designed to restore and extend the service life of the track structure. It is equipped with high-performance excavating chains that efficiently remove fouled ballast, ensuring precise and continuous material handling.
An integrated material recycling system cleans and reuses suitable ballast directly on site, significantly reducing the need for new material and lowering disposal costs. This combination of excavation, screening, and reuse improves overall track quality, enhances sustainability, and allows maintenance works to be carried out efficiently with minimal disruption to rail operations.
Ballast Cleaning and Profiling Machines for Railway Track Maintenance
Ballast Profiling and Cleaning Machines, also known as Ballast Cleaning Machines, are essential equipment for railway track maintenance. Their primary purpose is to keep the ballast clean, uniform, and stable, ensuring track safety, proper drainage, and long-term durability of the railway line.
Key functions include:
1. Removal of worn or contaminated ballast
Over time, ballast accumulates dirt, sand, dust, and fine particles, which reduce drainage capacity and track stability. The machine extracts the fouled ballast from the track bed using excavating and conveying systems.
2. Ballast cleaning
The extracted material is screened through vibrating sieves or screening units. Fine particles and impurities are removed, while usable ballast stones are recovered.
3. Ballast redistribution
The cleaned ballast is returned beneath the sleepers and along the track bed. The machine evenly distributes and profiles the ballast, restoring a stable and well-leveled track foundation.

By regenerating the ballast bed, these machines significantly improve track stability, water drainage, and overall railway traffic safety.
RM 900 High-Capacity Ballast Cleaning and Conveyor System
The RM 900 conveyor system is designed to efficiently handle both new and cleaned ballast. New ballast delivered via the material conveyor and hopper units is combined with the cleaned ballast and accurately placed back into the track. The ratio of new to reused ballast can be adjusted to suit site conditions, ensuring the track is immediately filled with the precise ballast quantity required for the first tamping pass.
During operation, the MFS units, pulled by power wagons, manage the transport and handling of spoil and new ballast. In addition to standard ballast bed cleaning, the RM 900 is capable of installing geotextiles and, when necessary, performing complete excavation of the ballast bed.
The HOBC system was engineered with a strong focus on maximum output and high laying accuracy, even within the tight clearance gauge constraints of the UK network.
In May 2004, extensive trials of the RM 900 high-capacity ballast cleaning machine were successfully conducted in Weissenbach, Austria, using five MFS units and a power wagon. All adjustments and acceptance tests were completed without issues, including the first-ever approval tests for operation on British railways, carried out in Linz.
In June, the machine and its supporting vehicles were transported to England via the Channel Tunnel, followed by final testing and approvals during the summer. The machine owner, Network Rail, appointed the joint venture First Engineering and Swietelsky to manage operation and maintenance, with preliminary operations scheduled to commence after the summer period.

Diagnostic and Measurement Machines
Diagnostic and measurement machines are essential tools for the inspection, monitoring, and analysis of railway infrastructure. They ensure the quality, safety, and reliability of rail operations by detecting wear, defects, and geometric deviations. These systems are primarily used to assess the track condition and the overhead contact line (catenary), enabling preventive maintenance, reducing downtime, and extending the service life of railway assets.

Main Functions – Track Geometry Monitoring
These systems measure key track geometry parameters, including alignment, level, cross-level variations between rails, and surface irregularities. They make it possible to detect deviations from ideal track geometry at an early stage, helping to prevent accidents, reduce premature wear, and optimize maintenance planning.
